Going 'Overboard'

David Suzuki is a well known environmentalist. His theories on climate change are discussed in environmental circles everywhere. He is a well respected scientist.

But the guy has gone overboard this Christmas.

His website has an alarmist section called Where Will Santa live?

While I applaud his efforts to reduce greenhouse emissions and lower pollution, this has gone too far. Not to mention this alarmist mentality, he is messing with a tradition that should be kept out of politics and the 'green' movement. David Suzuki can claim he's not messing with Christmas, just Santa Claus and where he will live. But its more, much more and very political in nature as well.

I'm really losing respect for this man. He criss-crosses the country on speaking engagements about how to lower your carbon footprint, but he does it on commercial and private jets! Dr. Suzuki - Lead by example!

I've been fairly outspoken about the green movement. I see it as a very good cause that has been corrupted by greedy people and companies and falsified data. It seems that anyone can say anything about our climate and people will believe it.

On one hand, those alarmist environmentalists have the Oceans flooding due to melting polar ice caps over the next 50 years. Another group has the world a barren wasteland of deserts in the same time. Yet another group has claimed the Arctic Ice cap has shrunk significantly since 1979, and another has the antarctic getting larger over the same time period. A third group has the world actually getting colder and this is called 'Global Dimming'.

Who the heck knows whats true and whats not?

Apparently not Al Gore, who spear-headed this movement years ago but has been caught in lie-after-lie and drama after drama.... Apparently not some scientists - admitted they adjusted their data to match the end result, not visa-versa.

And more factors come into play.

The end-of-the-world flood waters and completely melted Polar Ice Cap Predictions Al Gore cried wolf about, have set the entire 'green' movement back into the Ice Age.

The problem isn't that they are wrong necessarily. The world may be getting warmer, or it may not be. The problem seems to be a consensus can't be reached on 'if it is' or why. Some jumped on the CO2 bandwagon as soon as this theory came about. Others were not so quick. It seems now that some are discussing Sulfur emissions as being more of an issue, others are talking about Sun Spots and still others believe we are in a warming cycle.

Seems that no one can really agree on anything, except our need to 'do something'. I think that stems from a feeling of powerlessness. But are we really causing this? Again, it seems they can't agree on this factor either.

The only thing I will add to this debate is this: Alarmist science is rarely right. Its almost always rushed to get a desired result... data can be fudged, and blips or anomalies can be ignored to come up with a mean. This is dangerous science and has already cost us thousands of jobs and billions of dollars.

And Dr. Suzuki's alarmist case of Santa having no future home in the North Pole does nothing but incite young people to blindly follow potentially bad science. Not to mention how he blatantly asks for more donations. .... As if sending Dr. Suzuki your hard earned cash will end global warming as he suggests!

Below is a quote from his website:

The North Pole is no longer safe for Santa's Workshop

  1. Yes, the entire movement is truly alarmist. But, as for the attempt to influence younger ones .... I believe that ship has already sailed! But, this is more a fault of a school system that jumps on bandwagons to make themselves politically correct. Not for the sake of actually helping.

The green movement has gone out of control and seem to be crying wolf over everything, regardless of how tenuous the relationship might be to climate. But, fear mongering to get a point across, or sell something, is not new, and will not go away. The sad reality is that too many people will fall for it, simply because they believe it comes from some level of authority, without actually doing their own due diligence. I think it is also more of an indication of the sheeple mentality versus anything else.

  2. I agree George, many are so brainwashed right now, asking them to actually investigate seems like an intrusion.
