Rumor Denounced V1

Just a few short words to get this angst out of my system.

First of all folks, Facebook is NOT going to start charging for usage. Mark Zuckerberg is not about to throw billions of dollars of advertising revenue in the toilet by charging his clients.

This quote is on the Facebook main webpage. In case some of you don't believe me
A rumor on the internet caught our attention. We have no plans to charge for Facebook. It's free and always will be."
So simply put, don't copy and paste some spam text on your wall and hope it turns your Facebook icon blue - cause it's always been blue!

More rumors put to rest V2

Yes there is a comet heading in our rough general direction. Yes it will pass close to the Earth. But close in the cosmic sense is about 22 Million miles. Comet Elenin passed Earth's orbit in August on a round trip towards our Sun and back out again. On or about October 16th it will be as close to the Earth as it will ever get (on the return trip) - about 22 million miles - that is IF the comet survives. According to astronomers, this Comet is so small and fragile, that it's already partially broken up and may not survive the trip around the sun. It has faded in size and brightness about 20% since it was near our orbit in August.

Doomsayers have this mini-comet as the cause of the Japanese Earthquake last March, the two Earthquakes in New Zealand in 2011 as well as partially to blame for Haiti. One website is calling it a Life Ending Asteroid and telling us that NASA is hiding the truth and this comet will be our end.

Another website has the comet missing Earth, but fragmenting and raining down millions of shards onto the planet. Oh and one Website of doom and gloom even goes as far as calling this comet a Dwarf-Rogue Brown Star creating such a magnetic pull on the Earth that tides will rise upwards of 10 feet. This website suggests we all pack our bags and head for the highest ground possible on October 15th.

I guess the fact that NASA, countless expert astronomers and amateur astronomers are trying to watch it and can barely see it - as well as those posting scientific facts and exact trajectories are all conspirators!

Don't forget to change your Facebook icon to Blue!!!

Stupid Rumors V 3

Scientists, archeologists and historians have tried for years to explain the Mayan calendars mysterious ending on December 21, 2012.

Hollywood made a movie depicting what the end would be like on December 21. Some people have begun building their underground shelters (I kid you not!). A society for the future of mankind has actually begun to take money from people ($500,000 each) to build a series of underground shelters in the form of a city. The company is called 'Vivos' and is smart enough to realize they can get very rich, very quickly by building and selling underground dwellings to the rich and/or the paranoid.

The funny part is that - according to their website, they have sold and started to manufacture quite a few - many in the Los Angeles area.

Now, If I was going to spend a fortune on an underground shelter, why the heck would I do it next to the Pacific Oocean? I mean, really - if all of these doom and gloom people are right - and most of them predict a huge tidal wave caused by an asteroid striking the Earth or a huge series of Earthquakes causing tsunamis, or a massive series of Volcanic Eruptions would I really want to be hiding underground? GUYS - water, and lava tend to flow downhill!!!

The fact is that the Mayan Calendar ends on December 21, 2011 simply because they ran out of paper and figured they would just start over with the first age calendar! Chances are the Mayan government was in debt and laid off all the calendar people to save money and not have to charge more taxes!

Stupid Happenings V 4

This is perhaps the funniest thing I saw this week (also one of the dumbest).

A group of people decided it was in the planets' best interest to board buses, planes, trains and automobiles and drive to Parliament Hill to denounce the Country and Government for their use of oil and for building a pipeline!

(I guess they would rather have this oil shipped by sea or transport truck - cause they are safe! That's right, we have never had an oil spill and trucks use NO fuel to drive!!!!)

Not only did they cause a ton of pollution by simply getting there, they are not even aware of how efficient and deep rooted oil is in our society.

One guy started yelling "Stop using oil now" and some of the crowd on Parliament Hill joined in this chant. Other chants and slogans were screamed, "No more Pipeline", "the oil sands are killing our environment", and many more "green" comments were thrown around.

After all was said and done they then proceeded to walk to their cars and buses, powered by gasoline, on tires made with oil by-products, driving on pavement made from oil, and turned on the radio, made from plastic (an oil by-product) to listen to the news about themselves. When they got home, after burning off excessive gasoline, they turned on their computers, which use plastic and rubber and electricity, posting comments on Twitter and Facebook.... ... All the while feeling good about saving the planet from oil! After a quick browse over the news on their TV sets made from oil by-products and using electricity, they ate a bit of food, probably cooked on a stove (which has many plastic parts), using electricity (generated partially from coal). Some went to bed on their mattress made from memory foam (another oil by-product), and slept soundly knowing they had saved the planet from that dastardly oil pollutant!!!

I'm sure Dr. David Suzuki would be proud as he flies in his jet criss-crossing the country spreading his "don't use fuel" carbon footprint message.

I bet these are the same people that started the rumors that Facebook was going to start charging. I would put money on it - that half of these environmental nut cases copied and pasted some text about Facebook turning its icon blue, or a rogue comet slamming into the earth in 2 weeks, or the Mayan calendar foretelling the end of the planet.
